The brewing industry has traditionally relied on halogen chemicals like chlorine, various acids and hot water or steam for sanitation. These chemicals, however, leave harmful byproducts such as aromatic hydrocarbons that can impact beer flavours. Acids, on the other hand, have a lot of safety hazards. It can also be costly and mechanically demanding to produce steam or to use hot water.

Ozone enriched water has been proven effective for sanitizing brewing process equipment, including fermentation tanks and piping systems. It is a cost-saving alternative to heat or steam for sanitizing and cleaning mechanical equipment such as filling machines, which are vital to the brewing operations for both craft brewers and large-scale beer production facilities.
